VERSE 1
Got that call tonight I’ve long been fearin’
I knew sooner or later it had to come
Don’t tell me things I don’t need to be hearin’
I found out that you’d come undone
VERSE 2
Thought about all the times we argued and fought
That time we got caught havin’ too much fun
We were hot and we were young and on a roll
But a life on the run can take its toll
CHORUS
Thought our feet were on the rock till we began to roll
But in the end it’s in His hands and He’s in control
That diamond chip began as an ugly lump of coal
What good is it if we gain the world and lose our soul?
VERSE 3
I've been learning to live without you as best I can
But the more I think I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again
I’ve been learning what it means to really be a friend
VERSE 4
Don’t know what’s the matter but I’m up against the wall
In spite of all the chatter, pride still goes before a fall
But there’s nothin’ sadder than climbin’ a ladder
That’s leaning against the wrong wall
BRIDGE
In this great big universe, my life seems so small
Have I been blessed or cursed or do I matter at all?
Why didn’t I make that call? Why did I delay and stall?
How can things be just fine if I’ve never given my all?
I shoulda’ve built a bridge instead of a wall
CHORUS
Thought our feet were on the rock till we began to roll
But in the end it’s in His hands and He’s in control
That diamond chip began as an ugly lump of coal
What good is it if we gain the world and lose our soul?ose our soul?
VERSE 5
You were my world and I was enthralled by your charms
I was a guy, you were a girl; after all, where was the harm?
We should be holdin’ hands and walkin’ together arm in arm
But here I am, singin’ in a band, tryin’ to mend a broken heart
OUTRO
The more I think I know, the less I seem to understand
The things I thought I'd figured out, I now have to learn again
Had to learn to do without and learn how to be a friend
But it depends what you find out when you reach the end of the line
What’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine
But it’s all the Lords’ and He’s in control
Who wants to gain the world and lose their soul?
The Sleeping Dog Lies
by Stan C. Countz
Right now I may be top dog
And I believe I can fly
Livin' high on the hog
I can almost touch the sky
But as easy as fallin' off a log
I'm freezing and about to die
I'm queasy and my mind is a fog
And I don't even know why
Don't let me get you down
Go ahead, laugh and smile
No need to fret or frown
It only lasts for a while
Some say she's bi-polar
Some say she's just confused
She may cry on my shoulder
Or she may blow her fuse
I just wish I had told her
My little bit of good news
I want to squeeze and hold her
And lead her out of these blues
There's a place far above the fog
A land where no one ever dies
They're livin' high on the hog
And the sleeping dog lies
Inspiration and Perspiration
Right now I may be top dog
And I believe I can fly
Livin' high on the hog
I can almost touch the sky
But as easy as fallin' off a log
I'm freezing and about to die
I'm queasy and my mind is a fog
And I don't even know why
Don't let me get you down
Go ahead, laugh and smile
No need to fret or frown
It only lasts for a while
Some say she's bi-polar
Some say she's just confused
She may cry on my shoulder
Or she may blow her fuse
I just wish I had told her
My little bit of good news
I want to squeeze and hold her
And lead her out of these blues
There's a place far above the fog
A land where no one ever dies
They're livin' high on the hog
And the sleeping dog lies
